On October 29, 2026, abrasive manufacturer Mirka announced an expansion of its long-standing partnership with energy company Adven to advance abrasive particle recycling. A newly built processing system is expected to handle approximately 5,000 tonnes of abrasive waste per year and recover valuable raw materials.
The project's stated processing capacity provides a measure of the waste the system is expected to handle, not the quantity of raw materials it will recover. The amount recovered and its suitability for reuse will be important factors in assessing the system's contribution to the materials supply chain.
For abrasive producers, the initiative illustrates a potential route for connecting waste processing with raw material recovery. Its longer-term impact will depend on how effectively the system operates and whether recovered materials can be used in production.
